‘Memoryscape Moravia’, 2009
Commissioned by Centro de Desarollo Cultural de Moravia, Medelin, Colombia
Gayle Chong Kwan worked in the community of Moravia in Medellin in Colombia to develop a large-scale epic photographic work ‘Moravia Memoryscape’ (2009) which was installed on the side of buildings that had been torn down in the neighbourhood. She worked with community members and local recycling and reclamation small enterprises which collect, sort and re-use and re-cycle the waste materials upon which the neighbourhood is built, Referring to hopes and aspirations for the future development of Moravia as well as acting as a kind of ghostly poetic memory of its past.
